The Portland Thorns have a new look for the 2023 season, going a unique and artistic direction with their secondary uniforms.
The kit is white with tattoo-like rose designs across the chest and shoulders; the original red, black and green team crest in the center; additional details such as a knife featuring two of the three stars for the team’s championships with the third star — for the 2022 title — hanging above in bright red; and the team’s founding year (2013) in Roman numerals. With green accents, the shorts for the uniforms are green as well.
“We are excited about the unique and creative features of our new kit,” Thorns general manager Karina LeBlanc said in a release. “As a former Thorns FC player, I appreciate the historical elements highlighted by the original logo and the acknowledgement of the club’s first season in the NWSL. I look forward to seeing our players represent the city and our fans while wearing this special kit.”
Fans have already lit up social media with reactions after the kit leaked on Twitter last week, with reactions ranging from confused to entertained to unapologetically in love. The kit has created a conversation online and players teased its release with cryptic Tweets.
